She fell for the Sailor
who set his course and
sailed swiftly over the sea.
Scudding like a cloud
across the blue expanse,
he sought the end of the universe,
the final crest of the ocean.
When at last he found it,
he sent a letter south,
nestled inside was his question for her:
how much do you love me?
For weeks he sat upon his ship
awaiting her reply.
He spent his hours fishing over the horizon
and mending the sails and tightening the halyards.
At long last he heard
her whisper wandering to him
across the waves.
The Sailor looked up
and laughed into the face
of the cosmos.
