cymbals is an award-winning art and literary magazine run by students and the publication's faculty advisors. Each year, cymbals receives a myriad of literary and visual art submissions. The editorial team reads, contemplates, and discusses each submitted piece based on artistic vision, individual voice, and polished craftsmanship. Last year, the magazine was awarded the American Scholastic Press Association First Place with Special Merit prize and Most Outstanding High School Literary-Art Magazine.
This year's theme is
Shadows and Light.
Jamie McCulloch has been teaching English at Princeton Day School since 2011 and tries to use cymbals as a spotlight for all the amazing artistic things students are doing here each year.
"q" has been teaching English at PDS for thirty years and helping students kick out aesthetically stunning cymbals issues for at least one third of this time. Capturing the artistic achievements of each new crop of upper school students each April-May is an amazingly detailed and laborious process, but it's worth it (and btw, that's the only cliche in the 'zine this year).
